About us
Atol Aviation is a brand owned by the Scandinavian Seaplanes Oy/AB, located in Finland, Northern Europe. Scandinavian Seaplanes is an airplane factory specializing in seaplane & amphibian design and manufacture. The company has own production and design staff, along with large production facilities at an airfield next to a lake in Central Finland. We will soon also have EASA Part-21 production approval for aircraft parts.
The company is fairly new (founded in 2020 by two Swedish entrepreneurs and CEO Anssi Rekula), however, the ATOL 650-design and company know-how trace back more than ten years. We have also succeeded in hiring many new talents with long history in various areas in aviation. Together we are proud to make Atol Aurora fly again.

Introducing the next ATOL-amphibian: the electric/hybrid E-Seaplane! It will be something new, something needed and designed for serious seaplane flying.
-
The E-SEAPLANE was designed to fulfil a need. After a tour as bush pilot and operating his own Cessna floatplane, designer Risto started thinking of ways to make seaplane flying easier, more economical and most of all safer.
-
The E-SEAPLANE will be simple, rugged and inexpensive to own and operate from both land and water.
-
It will be scalable.
-
It is the ideal replacement for aging bush planes, air taxis and private seaplanes and amphibian aircraft.
-
It will also create new markets as an inexpensive passenger transport between city centres.
-
It will be certified according to EASA CS-/FAR-23 specifications for single-pilot VFR- and IFR- day/night operations.
-
With contemporary seaplanes, pilots are faced with many challenges that the E-Seaplane beats. Some of the major challenges are:
-
difficult docking in various wind and sea conditions with limited or non-existent control of the aircraft;
-
finding the place to dock the aircraft;
-
logistic issues: fuel supply, over-wing refueling, etc;
-
floatplanes are landplanes that have been modified to seaplanes => they are not optimized for flying from water => low stability and control on water;
-
the majority of airframes used in professional seaplane operations is very old.
-
The E-SEAPLANE eliminates these challenges.
-
The E-SEAPLANE is an electric/hybrid amphibian airplane designed by a commercial seaplane pilot for rugged use and demanding conditions.
-
It is a revolutionary patented design that brings unsurpassed level of safety, utility and ease of use - in addition to lower environmental footprint (lower emissions, noise and spillage).
-
The E-SEAPLANE features a simple structure, resulting in low development, manufacturing and operating costs.
-
Despite the simplicity, the safety comfort of pilots and passengers will not be compromised.
-
The design is easily adaptable to various powertrain solutions (batteries, hybrid, fuel cells).
Status:
-
The project is at a design stage.
-
A proof of concept radio controlled model airplane flew successfully already in 2018.
-
The experimental prototype is estimated to fly within 2 years from launch.
-
Production will begin after 3 years from launch.
-
The structure and aerodynamics are based on conventional, existing technology (except the batteries, which will be new generation).
-
Because of the design features, the prototype is easy to modify into production variant.
-
The main product will be a 5-12 seat hybrid/electric charter amphibian for taxi flights within a city, between cities or in/into the wilderness.
